The DiSTI Corporation partnered up with Stark Learning to address the problem of certifying truck drivers transporting Liquid Natural Gas to become operators qualified to refuel LNG independently by developing a virtual maintenance system. Providing LNG refueling training can be challenging and a time-consuming endeavor.

A Virtual reality training solution lowers the threshold for transport companies using LNG-fueled trucks while providing an extra incentive for investing in LNG-powered transport. Stark Learning utilized DiSTI’s VE Studio® to develop virtual maintenance trainers for virtual Reality, desktop, and touchscreen-based devices.

The German-Dutch border region doesn’t allow unmanned LNG refueling unless done under the supervision of a certified operator. Out of 40 drivers per truck, only 10–20 truck drivers receive training in this dangerous refueling procedure. Stark Learning utilized VE Studio® to develop an immersive virtual training solution leading to a significant reduction in training costs.

Stark Learning recognizes the need for a scalable digital solution to develop a standard training methodology to certify every truck driver on this procedure. VE Studio® allows non-Unity developers such as 3D artists to utilize the workflow of VE Studio® software when developing virtual training solutions.

Stark Learning derived the necessary refueling procedures from truck operation manuals and placed them into the workflow to create the virtual training steps. Using VE Studio®, the team created a 1:1 model of a detailed refueling station, putting the user in a realistic scenario and requiring them to complete the steps to refuel the truck. The completed training solution was fully developed in three months from conception to delivery in three languages, English, Dutch, and German.
